Abstract:
The EFRO research project Energising Deltas revolved around the following question: How can – from a public administration perspective – sustainable energy extraction and water management be combined in a new generation of waterworks? Taking into account the increasing scarcity of fossil fuels and the rising call for sustainable alternatives, new ways to extract energy are being explored such as tidal energy or energy from sweet/salt osmosis. In light of this, utilizing a public flood defense might be an interesting option for an efficient combination of energy extracting functionalities.
